This Rapid Report describes the magnitude and breadth of the harmful effects of ultra-processed food consumption on people’s mental wellbeing around the world. We demonstrate that these effects are independent of exercise frequency and income, suggesting a causal relationship that is not mitigated by exercise and socioeconomic status.
